Sue Pohanka will be at mt burton Gallery 1819 Long Beach Blvd., Surf City, NJ
Sue was born a tree-hugger and loves drawing on her knowledge of nature in her art.
After earning a BA in geology from Colgate University and a MS in geology from the University of Massachusetts, she worked for several years in environmental consulting. She decided to give up her job as a scientist to pursue her passion for art after the birth of her children, and for the past 25 years has worked in various media including figure drawing, watercolors , and ceramics. She maintains studios in Bryn Mawr and Long Beach Island, where she spends her summers.
Currently, she works primarily in clay creating functional pottery in porcelain. She enjoys using her painting and drawing skills to decorate her work with images of whimsical creatures. She loves the malleability and physicality of clay: you’re encouraged to get dirty and smush your mistakes.
For the past 10 years, Sue has also volunteered as a docent at the Philadelphia Zoo, where she likes keeping up with the antics of the gorillas.
